I can't say this enough:
WANTING ATTENTION IS NOT SHAMEFUL.
SEEKING AFFECTION IS NOT SHAMEFUL.
IT IS NORMAL.
EVERYONE NEEDS ATTENTION AND AFFECTION.
STOP SHAMING PEOPLE FOR SEEKING ATTENTION.

I see shaming for seeking attention a lot here on DeviantArt, and it makes me very upset. You see it a lot when there's a "troll" or "art thief" around: people start berating them and making cruel remarks about how they 'just want attention because they don't get any at home'.

It is probably true that they don't get enough attention through the means that healthy individuals do. And that's not shameful. It is sad. Attention from others, particularly close family members, is something that we as humans need - and if we don't get it like we're supposed to, we will try to find other ways of getting it. Are they always healthy ways? No, not always - because that doesn't work at home, so you don't believe it will work online, etc., either.

Yes, it is true that oftentimes trolls and art thieves aren't getting enough attention in their home life, and they act out in hopes of getting attention from other people. Don't rub salt in their wound by shaming them for it. That is bullying, and that is not okay.
